Took front wheel to, admittedly free, mechanic at MT Dora Bike Fest.
The wheel was slightly out of true. The Clermont Bicycles mechanic proceeded to tighten spoke 3 huge turns and broke the hub. Then spent 5 minutes telling me that the hub was faulty. I have never seen any mechanic, and I have known quite a few in my 40 years of cycling, use such poor technique when truing a wheel. Made no attempt to loosen opposing spokes before cranking the hell out of one poor spoke.
He then tried to sell me a pair of carbon wheels. Needless to say I didn't ride that day. I always travel with spare spokes now I think I'll have to bring spare wheels.
