The 9-spd derailleur on my Doublevision tandem recumbent went bad a mile South of Marfa,15JUN2011, and I reconfigured it into a bloody single speed. Meant I didn't make it Alpine the following day for the only bike shop in the region. I am a skilled wrench, and Bikeman John gave me free reign to put on a new 8-spd derailleur. I also bought new chains and he recommended White Lightning lube for them. It was great, not only was I able to make my machine pedable for the next 1000 miles, but I didn't interfere with his work as he satisfied every customer who came in the door for repairs, questions, and advice. Bikeman John is a valuable resource for Alpine, Marfa, entire region (remember, TX is a huge state so 'region' is probably the size of Missouri!); he is the "go-to" guy for anything bicycle! If he's not in, call and he'll respond fast.
